SAN DIEGO, CA – The Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA) is outraged by the blatant racism and hypocrisy shown by the Trump administration’s decision to grant refugee protections to white South Afrikaners—based on unverified and debunked claims of “discrimination”—while continuing to deny thousands of Black asylum seekers from Haiti, AfghanistanSudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and other countries where persecution is real, documented, and deadly.

Let’s be clear: there is no credible evidence—none—from the United Nations or any major international human rights organization that white South Afrikaners are being persecuted in their home country. Even the Episcopal Church—which has partnered with the U.S. government for nearly four decades to resettle refugees—has publicly denounced this decision by the administration and has stated that it will not participate in the resettlement of Afrikaners citing moral opposition and terminated its agreement with the government . Yet this administration fast-tracked their claims, approving them in just three months, while completely suspending the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program for Black and brown asylum seekers.

“This is not refugee policy—this is white supremacy, plain and simple,” said Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance. “This decision takes cruelty to another level. It exposes the dangerous truth that under this administration, your skin color—not your fear, not your trauma, not your need for protection—determines whether you are granted safety or sent back to die. This is not about protection—it’s about whose lives America deems worthy. If this is what pro-life and pro-human rights looks like, then we have lost our moral compass.”

We demand that the Trump administration immediately reinstate refugee protections for all people fleeing violence and persecution, regardless of race or nationality. We call on members of Congress, civil rights leaders, and the public to speak out and take action. Silence is complicity.
