San Diego, CA – On Friday, November 15, 2024, the White House Office of Public Engagement, in collaboration with the Haitian Bridge Alliance, hosted members of the Haitian Diaspora, an event dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions of Haitian Americans to the United States. This historic event brought together leaders from the Haitian American community, policymakers, elected officials, pastors, priests, musicians, actors, singers, comedians and advocates to celebrate the rich culture, resilience, and achievements of the Haitian diaspora.

According to the Migration Policy Institute, there are over 1.2 million Haitian Americans living in the United States, with significant communities in Florida, New York, Massachusetts, and beyond who have contributed significantly to the development of this nation. Haitian Americans represent a significant portion of the healthcare workforce, with roughly 10% of Haitian immigrants working as registered nurses, medical assistants, or in other critical health roles.

In her opening remarks, Haitian Bridge Alliance Executive Director, Guerline Jozef stated, “Haitian Americans are integral to the fabric of this nation. From healthcare to education, from the arts to public service, our contributions are diverse and impactful. This event reflects a commitment to honoring and elevating our voices.”

The event also celebrated the profound cultural impact of Haitian Americans, including their influence on music, art, cuisine, and social movements. Highlights included performances by Haitian-American artists.
White House officials emphasized the administration’s commitment to advancing policies that uplift Haitian Americans and address the unique challenges facing the Haitian diaspora, including immigration reform, disaster response, and economic development initiatives.

Haitian Bridge Alliance extends its deepest appreciation to the Biden-Harris Administration, specifically the staff at the Office of Public Engagement for supporting this event. Haitian Bridge Alliance also extends its heartfelt gratitude to Island TV, the artists who traveled from across the U.S. to participate, L’Union Suite, Haitian Ladies Network, the National Haitian American Elected Officials Network (NHAEON), and all other supporters who contributed to the success of this event. Special thanks go to the caterers for providing the delicious Haitian cuisine that added a true taste of home to the celebration.
