San Diego, California – As we mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Haitian Bridge Alliance urgently calls upon the Biden administration to cease discriminatory practices against migrants of African descent.

Recent events at the U.S.-Mexico border have highlighted a troubling pattern of differential treatment based on race and nationality. Haitian migrants, and other migrants of African descent, have faced disproportionate levels of harsh enforcement measures, including mass deportations, detention in inhumane conditions, and limited access to due process.

This discriminatory treatment not only violates international human rights principles but also contradicts the administration’s stated commitments to racial equity and justice. It perpetuates systemic racism within immigration policies and undermines efforts to address racial discrimination domestically and globally.

We urge the Biden administration to uphold its moral and legal obligations by immediately halting discriminatory practices targeting migrants of African descent. Instead, we call for policies that uphold the dignity, rights, and well-being of all migrants, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, or nationality.

It is time for the administration to demonstrate genuine leadership in combating racial discrimination and fostering inclusivity and fairness within the immigration system. The Haitian Bridge Alliance stands ready to collaborate in advancing these essential goals.
