SAN DIEGO, CA — On this World Humanitarian Day, the Haitian Bridge Alliance denounces the appalling retreat of the United States from its obligations to the global community by slashing international spending that could directly alleviate humanitarian crises. At a moment when nearly 6 million Haitians  —half the population—require urgent assistance, and 5.7 million are facing acute hunger.

Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance, released the following statement:

“It is unconscionable that the U.S. government abandons the most vulnerable while pouring billions into militarization and corporate subsidies. If the United States will not lead with justice, then the international community must rise to fill the gap—stepping up with resources, solidarity, and courage to ensure that no person is left to perish.”

These cuts not only betray America’s moral responsibility but also fuel instability and deepen human suffering around the world. From DRC to Sudan to Haiti, millions are left without food, water, or shelter as humanitarian appeals remain chronically underfunded. The global humanitarian system is being pushed to the brink, and without immediate action by the international community, countless lives will be lost. On this day, we call for a radical reorientation of priorities: one that puts people, not profit or power, at the center of humanitarian action.
