San Diego, California—– Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Haitian Bridge Alliance honors the enduring legacy of Dr. King’s struggle against state-sanctioned brutality, racial exclusion, and the abuse of power. Dr. King understood that injustice does not operate in silos—and that the erosion of civil rights anywhere threatens freedom everywhere.

This moment demands renewed solidarity as we confront a political climate in which cruelty has been normalized, democratic institutions strained, and immigrant communities—particularly Black and Brown migrants—have been targeted through aggressive enforcement, family separation, and dehumanizing rhetoric. These actions echo the very systems of oppression Dr. King fought to dismantle. Civil rights organizations and immigrant-centered NGOs must work in partnership to defend human dignity, challenge abuse of power, and protect the most vulnerable among us. Our movements are strongest when they are united, intersectional, and uncompromising in the pursuit of justice.

As Dr. King reminded us, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Haitian Bridge Alliance remains steadfast in advancing that truth—today and always.

Quote from Guerline Jozef, Executive Director, Haitian Bridge Alliance:

“Dr. King taught us that justice requires courage, coalition, and moral clarity. At this moment in our history, immigrant communities are on the frontlines of state violence, and civil rights organizations must stand with us—together—to confront cruelty, defend human dignity, and resist policies rooted in fear and exclusion.”
