SAN DIEGO, CA — The Haitian Bridge Alliance condemns the passage of H.R. 1– One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a brutal, morally bankrupt policy package championed and will be signed into law by President Trump. This bill sends $170 billion for immigration and border enforcement, including $100+ billion for ICE and Customs & Border Protection through 2029, and $46.5 billion  to fortify the border wall—allocations that vastly exceed any investment in healthcare or poverty reduction. It transforms ICE into the largest law enforcement agency in the country, multiplies detention beds, hires thousands of new agents, and cements a mass deportation  machine designed to terrorize immigrant communities.

While millions of  migrants, immigrants, and naturalized U.S. citizens are threatened with detention, deportation, and forced family separation, this bill simultaneously slashes funding for social and safety-net services for over 38 million people living below the poverty line, including 12 million children, by gutting Medicaid, SNAP, rural clinics, and community health programs. More than 450 rural hospitals  were already in danger of closing even before these unprecedented cuts; now countless clinics face permanent shutdown, condemning children, the elderly, and chronically ill patients to sickness and death from lack of care. Some will die—not of pandemic, but of deliberate policy neglect.

Meanwhile, this bill showers the rich and corporations with permanent tax breaks—locking in Trump-era tax cuts, doubling the SALT deduction cap , and expanding giveaways to big business—while the poorest pay the price . It is an economic coup for the wealthy, wrapped in cruelty for everyone else.

“The so-called ‘One Big Beautiful Act’ is not beautiful — it is an ugly, violent assault on our humanity,” said Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance. “It is, in reality, state-sanctioned genocide of the poor and displaced. President Trump is weaponizing the government against immigrants, rural families, children, and seniors. By gutting health care and shredding safety nets while funneling tens of billions into ICE and border walls, this bill delivers death by legislation. We refuse to stay silent. We will resist with everything we have.”

Haitian Bridge Alliance calls on all lawmakers, advocates, and people of conscience to reject this inhuman legislation, fight for its repeal, and demand a policy agenda centered on dignity, justice, and life—not on violence, separation, and death.
