SAN DIEGO, CA —
Haitian Bridge Alliance stands in fierce opposition to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals’ emergency stay issued on August 20, 2025, which empowers the Trump administration to rescind Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for more than 60,000 migrants from Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal. This decision immediately exposes  approximately 7,000 Nepalese TPS holders, whose protections expired on August 5, to removal, and sets termination for about 51,000 Hondurans and 3,000 Nicaraguans on September 8. All three countries are grappling with severe humanitarian and security crises. The move flagrantly disrupts the lives of long-standing members of communities—many of whom have lived here for decades, raised U.S.-citizen children, built businesses, and contributed economically and socially.

Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance, Guerline Jozef, states:

“This ruling is not merely a policy reversal—it is an act of state-sanctioned erasure. It criminalizes immigrants who have built lives here through resilience, sweat, and love for this country. By stripping away legal status without regard for the human suffering and systemic violence that continues in their homelands, the court aligns itself with a xenophobic agenda that seeks to dismantle solidarity, justice, and the inclusive vision of our society.”

“This ruling is devastating not only because it green-lights ongoing cruelty, but because the court gave no explanation for why families who have lived here for decades and have done everything the U.S. asked of them must suddenly face the threat of detention and deportation. The Haitian Bridge Alliance stands with TPS holders from Honduras, Nepal, and Nicaragua, whose lives are being thrown into turmoil by this decision. We will continue to fight alongside our partners until protections are secured.” – Erik Crew, Staff Attorney, Haitian Bridge Alliance

Haitian Bridge Alliance calls on the legal community, Congress, and allied states to intervene immediately. Congress must act to pass a permanent legislative solution to provide pathways to permanent residency. Attorneys across the country must prepare injunctions, class-action litigation, and constitutional challenges to prevent unlawful deportations. In addition, governors and mayors in sanctuary jurisdictions can utilize state and municipal protections to shield affected families, ensuring no one is ripped from their community while the fight for justice continues in the courts and in Congress.
