San Diego, CA. — The Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA) congratulates Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and her colleagues for successfully securing the 218 signatures required to advance a discharge petition that will force a vote to extend TPS protections for Haiti, which could impact more than 350,000 Haitian nationals currently at risk of deportation in the U.S. House of Representatives on extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti.

“This moment is a testament to the power of collective advocacy and sustained organizing,” said Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance. “For months, Haitian Bridge Alliance, UBN, FLIC, IJDH, IFSI and other partners, allies and advisors have been on the frontlines—calling and emailing Members of Congress, mobilizing our communities, and ensuring that the voices of Haitian families were heard. This milestone affirms that when we organize with purpose, we can move policy and protect lives.”

Haitian Bridge Alliance extends its deep gratitude to the broad coalition of advocacy organizations, faith leaders, grassroots organizers, and community members whose tireless efforts made this achievement possible. HBA also thanks the Members of Congress—on both sides of the aisle—and their dedicated staff who worked diligently to secure the bipartisan signatures necessary to reach this threshold.

“This victory belongs to the people,” the Executive Director added. “From community members making calls late into the night to coalition partners coordinating nationwide advocacy efforts, this was a true collective effort grounded in justice, dignity, and humanity.” While this development represents a significant step forward, HBA emphasizes that the work is not yet complete. HBA will continue its advocacy efforts to ensure the swift passage of the legislation once it reaches the House floor.
