San Diego, CA. — As Black History Month is observed, Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA reaffirms that the struggle for justice is ongoing. At a time when civil rights protectionsimmigrant communities, and freedom of the press face mounting threats, HBA reiterates its call for stronger collaboration between Black and Brown communities rooted in the legacy of the civil rights movement.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. warned that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” (Letter from Birmingham Jail, 1963). Today, attacks on immigrants, voter suppression efforts, and attempts to silence journalists are interconnected assaults on human dignity and democratic accountability. HBA emphasizes that immigrant justice—particularly for Black migrants—is inseparable from racial justice. Divisive rhetoric and scapegoating weaken all movements for equality. As Dr. King reminded the nation, we are “caught in an inescapable network of mutuality” (Letter from Birmingham Jail, 1963).

“Black History Month is not only about remembering the past—it is about meeting the moral demands of the present,” said Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance, “More than 300,000 Haitian nationals, along with Somali, South Sudanese, Venezuelan, and Afghan TPS holders, are now at risk of deportation due to the administration’s unlawful termination of TPS. Unity across movements is essential to defending civil rights and protecting our communities.”

Haitian Bridge Alliance urges civil rights leaders, immigrant advocates, journalists, and policymakers both at the state and federal level to recommit to unity, truth, and collective action. History shows that progress is only possible when communities stand together.
