SAN DIEGO, CA —The Haitian Bridge Alliance condemns the Trump administration’s decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 72,000 Hondurans and 4,000 Nicaraguans, set to begin in early September 2025. This move is unconscionable and flagrantly undermines decades of humanitarian commitments. TPS recipients have been integral to local economies and social fabric—94% of working-age TPS holders are employed and contributed over $2 billion to the U.S. economy  in just 2021 alone. Ending these protections will inject instability and financial insecurity into thousands of families, including many who have U.S. citizen children.

This policy decision is rooted in pseudo-logic. Honduras ranks among the most violent nations on the planet, with homicide rates near 75 per 100,000 . Nicaragua is under authoritarian rule, with documented political imprisonment and extrajudicial crackdowns . In the face of these realities, revoking TPS abandons people to violence, surveillance, and dire economic conditions.

“The decision to end TPS for Hondurans and Nicaraguans is a cruel betrayal of our shared humanity. It is state-sanctioned violence disguised as policy, forcing thousands back into danger after decades of building lives, contributing to our economy, and raising families in the U.S. We will not stand by as this administration wages war on immigrant communities. We demand justice, dignity, and permanent bipartisan protection from Congress now.” — Guerline Jozef, Executive Director, Haitian Bridge Alliance.
