San Diego, CA – The Haitian Bridge Alliance (HBA) commends the coalition of state attorneys general and civil rights organizations for standing against the Trump administration’s decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for over 500,000 Haitian nationals. The submission of an amicus brief, filed in Haitian Evangelical Clergy Association v. Donald J. Trump written by Attorney General James and the coalition argued that eliminating TPS for Haitian immigrants would put them in danger, tear families apart, and hurt local economies. Their action represents a critical step in safeguarding the rights and well-being of Haitian communities residing in the United States.

The abrupt termination of TPS by the Trump adminstration, scheduled for August 2025—six months earlier than previously designated—threatens to uproot families, destabilize communities, and force deportations to a nation grappling with severe humanitarian crises. Haiti continues to face escalating gang violence, political instability, and economic collapse, rendering it unsafe for the return of its nationals, which was not taken into account when terminating the program.

Guerline Jozef, Executive Director of Haitian Bridge Alliance, released the following statement:

We are profoundly grateful for the courageous leadership of the state attorneys general and civil rights organizations who are standing on the frontlines of justice. Their work is not only a legal intervention—it is a moral imperative. At a time when the lives of hundreds of thousands of Haitian nationals hang in the balance, their advocacy affirms that Black immigrants matter, that due process matters, and that this nation can still choose compassion over cruelty. We at Haitian Bridge Alliance stand with them in defense of the dignity and humanity of our people. We will continue our fight in courtrooms, the halls of Congress, and in the streets across America..”

HBA stands in solidarity with the plaintiffs and all organizations challenging this unjust policy. We urge the administration to restore and extend TPS for Haiti, ensuring the safety and dignity of Haitian nationals who have long contributed to the fabric of American society. Haitian Bridge Alliance has also filed lawsuits challenging President Trump’s Immigration policy. Recently, a federal appeals court denied the Trump administration’s request to stay a lower court’s order that prevents the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 350,000 Venezuelans. This decision ensures that these individuals retain their legal protections and work authorizations while the case proceeds through the courts.

The lawsuit, which includes Haitian TPS holders, challenges the termination of TPS as  unconstitutionally motivated by racial animus and as arbitrary, capricious, and in excess of legal authority in violation of the Administrative Procedure Act (APA).
